Salt Lick BBQ

Wednesday, it's my birthday and Kate is treating me. We drive out to the Salt Lick Bar-B-Que (it's in country, on a country road, near Driftwood Texas) for some melt in your mouth brisket. Hey, it's my birthday my choice! We've been here many times over the years. There are several good BBQ places in Austin but it's nice to get out of the city and explore that famous "hill country".

It's only a half hour or so to the south and west of the city. We sometimes stop at the Chapel Dulcinea at the Wizard Academy (sic!) on the way. There's also the Radha Madhav Dham (another sic!) nearby. But not today.

We've discovered that if we order 2 senior's brisket plates I can have Kate's meat and she's Ok with the sides — some beans, slaw and a potato/turnip salad. We pick up some wine with our meal; there's a winery next door and vineyards on the site.

Tonight it's James McMurtry at the Continental Club Gallery, another birthday treat.
